PHOTOS BY SARA FRANCE

So happy to see the pics from officiating the wedding ceremony for Chelsy and Mario. They were such a fun couple at their August wedding at the beautiful Hilton Mission Bay.

They had a true toes-in-the-sand San Diego wedding!

During the craziness of gathering everyone for the wedding rehearsal, they had a cute phrase they said to each other, “honey, lead by example.”

Aside from their beautiful vows to each other and the meaningful readings during the ceremony, I feel like that phrase really exemplified who they are, and the support and encouragement they give each other.

So fun to work with the amazing Sara France on this one! Thank you for the fantastic pics Sara!

I’m so excited! I just bought a brandnew amp & mic for officiating wedding ceremonies!

ImageThe Alesis Transactive (as opposed to the Nimbus 2000 – yes, I can be a little dorky.)

It can even play music simultaneously with ipod or ipad with bluetooth.

It’s always best when I can use a professional sound system provided by a DJ or venue. But sometimes that isn’t possible.

Never again will I have to make do with some low-end rented amp or, simply projecting as loud as possible (aka shouting).

From now on, only quality sound to share my dulcet vocals for my amazing clients, even if it’s for only a small gathering of 10 people on the beach.

Just came back from attending the monthly meeting of San Diego’s Death Cafe group. Amazing.

How great is the name? “Cafe” gives an accessible quality to a concept that seems so untouchable.

Imagine going to your favorite coffee house with a few friends, and one of them mentions a worry, or revelation, or question they have about a very charged subject.

Which is exactly what we did.

The group gathered in several small circles of 6-8 and we talked about death. Anything that anyone wanted to talk about: our own death, the impending death of a loved one, deaths of others we’ve already journeyed through, the logistics of dealing with everything after a family member’s death, what is an ideal death . . . we could have talked all night, though I felt I had plenty to absorb after about an hour.  The discussions were matter-of-fact, practical, educational – there was no extreme emotion – just fascinating questions and insights.

One of my favorite comments from one of the participants, talking about her mother’s death: “The relationship doesn’t end when they die, it just changes.”

So excited to join a group like this – it’s time our Western culture embraced new ways of relating to death.

I left the meeting feeling light as air.

This is an international grass-roots organization – there might be one in your area.  Check it out.

Yesterday I performed a baby blessing for little 4-month-old Brady.

We held the blessing in the very same location where I officiated his parents’ wedding ceremony two years , on the little beach in front of Candelas Coronado.

It was a spectacular sunny San Diego afternoon, and Brady was a gurgling bundle of joy.

These moments of celebration put everything in perspective — daily frustrations, concerns, worries — they float away for awhile, as we remember how great it is to be on this planet right now.

Today the event industry meeting of the San Diego Association of Bridal Consultants gathered in the beautiful gardens of Quail Haven, decorated for an ideal wedding ceremony setting.

A beautiful venue to host your wedding out in the countryside in a bounty of roses.

During the luncheon, Minister Bethel Nathan commented on the incredible spirit of teamwork we all feel with our wedding industry colleagues. And on that note I was happy to share a lunch table with some of the best in the business: Spencer Bezy of Mobile Music Plus, guitarist Anthony Garcia, photographer Brant Bender, Marc Lehman of Emotions Picture Studio and the team of Eco Catering.

The drive and walkway up to the entrance, adorned with beautiful brickwork and abundance of roses.

These industry meetings are always a pleasure and an inspiration.
