Babies exude a sense of hope. Not that they are to be burdened with the pressure of changing the world, but simply reminding us that it is enough just to be. Babies don’t accomplish or do, they just be – and for that they are truly loved.

LOCATION FAVORITES
Baby blessings held at home with family is the most popular venue to celebrate and bless your newborn.

Springtime Blessing in April:

In the backyard at their parents’ beautiful peaceful home in Ramona.

LuciaMarais

At the beginning of the ceremony, just as we took a moment to think of those not with us, and honor those who have passed – a hummingbird flitted by. Little hello from spirit 🙂

A super sweet message from these wonderful new parents after their daughter’s baby blessing:

“We loved Lucia’s ceremony, and your presentation and support were perfect. Thank you again for joining us on this special day! . . . I think many parents would benefit from your blessing ceremony guidance, preparation, and administration! 🙂 “

Summertime Blessing in August:

The blessing for little Bradford took place in a family home in Chula Vista. The property was beautifully landscaped with love and attention, and this alcove the perfect spot for friends and family to gather around for the baby blessing.

Even better, much of the brickwork on the pathways, tile work on the walls, and in particular, the tile work housing this beautiful statuary- all handplaced by Brandon Grant (who happens to be a previous baby blessing client!)

His work is superior and beautiful. If you are looking for a unique complement to your backyard or landscaping, give him a call!

Divine Water
Why do I use water for a baby blessing? Obviously it is an age-old tradition that churches have used water in baptisms, whether via a baptismal font for babies, or submersion in the river for adults.

Because I am a nondenominational minister and officiant and not associated with any particular religion, I focus on the purity of water, and its ability to conduct energy – especially the energy of love.

For instance, if you have ever heard of or read about Masaru Emoto and his work with water crystals, you can see the power of emotion on water.

For every baby blessing ceremony, I pour filtered water into a small glass jar, then I hold the jar as I meditate and pray for the baby and family. I believe the water is conducting my positive emotions and alignment for the baby’s wellbeing.

This is the water I then use- with a few droplets – to bless the baby.

After going for 6 hours, almost nonstop, giving Reiki to more than 12 clients, you’d think I would have been exhausted. In fact, I was invigorated and inspired.

It was such an honor to be a part of Circuit Healing Day on Monday, founded and created by Anna Naturalista – a force of a woman on a quest to heal the world, one person at a time.

Custom-made day

Held at a beautiful estate in Rancho Santa Fe, Circuit Healing Day served as a specialized, custom-made “spa” day for each participant. As they arrived and registered, their needs were assessed – whether physical, mental, emotional or all.

Then they enjoyed different healing modalities, techniques, and tools throughout the day, and the estate.

Not to mention taking in incredible views, enjoying delicious healthy food, and taking a dip in the pool or jacuzzi between sessions.

Reiki is different for everybody

As they arrived in a private back room for a Reiki session with me, each client shared their own amazing story and what brought them to circuit healing day.

And, as Reiki is a universal energy, everyone responded differently to the session.

~One client felt a release in the tension of her neck.

~Another cried over missing a loved one.

~Another saw angels all around her.

Most comments I received included, “that was wonderful” and “I am so relaxed.”

Receiving Reiki might elicit a feeling or experience that can be challenging to articulate. Most importantly, it is an opportunity for the body to relax and receive an energy that is universal and healing.

What does Reiki have to do with it?

So, what is an officiant doing practicing Reiki? What does that have to do with wedding ceremonies and baby blessings?

Well, in a word, everything.

To me healing energy and Reiki – *spiritually guided life force energy- is the “connective tissue” to all that I do. Honoring the sacred in everything, whether is it officiating a wedding ceremony, performing a baby blessing, facilitating a memorial service.

It is showing up with the understanding that there is so much more at work than just me.

………..

*The word Reiki is composed of two Japanese words:
~Rei which means “God’s Wisdom” or “the Higher Power”
~Ki which is “life force energy”
So Reiki is actually “spiritually guided life force energy”

When I tell people I perform baby blessings, often a smile appears, followed by slight confusion around the eyes.

My sister asked, “Like in the Lion King?”
Well, definitely with the enthusiasm and sense of community, but without quite so much drama, and there is no dangling of babiesThe-Lion-King-the-lion-king-13191392-800-600 over a cliff.

So, I continue describing, “it’s taking a moment to honor this new little life in your life. To focus on your intentions for parenting this child, the promises and commitments you are making to your little one. Even asking for support from your friends and family.”

But beyond promises, intentions, and support of community, it’s a moment to invite the Divine into your baby’s life and purpose while they play on Earth, whatever that means to you.

You can make the Baby Blessing ceremony a big occasion and invite all of your extended family, friends, and people in your community.

Or it can be an intimate ceremony, just the two of you and your child.

Whatever you create, it’s a time to focus on honoring the Sacred Experience of bringing this child into the world and promising to do your best to help the child be their best.

Yesterday I performed a baby blessing for little 4-month-old Brady.

We held the blessing in the very same location where I officiated his parents’ wedding ceremony two years , on the little beach in front of Candelas Coronado.

It was a spectacular sunny San Diego afternoon, and Brady was a gurgling bundle of joy.

These moments of celebration put everything in perspective — daily frustrations, concerns, worries — they float away for awhile, as we remember how great it is to be on this planet right now.
