Fluxx did it again!

What do you get when you combine sweets, cocktails and chocolate? Very happy girls 🙂

Fluxx continues to showcase their space in new and exciting ways, and last night’s New Theme Launch Party was no exception.

The Fluxx Sweet Shoppe offered different stations of cupcakes, rice krispie treats, chocolate fountains, and savories, and specialty coffees.

I tried not to hover over the cupcake table and had to restrain myself from eating more than the THREE I devoured. One was a deceptively simple chocolate with no icing – but bite into it and your mouth bursts with a little pop of pure liquid chocolate. Divine.

There was such attention to detail throughout the club, with giant lollipops hanging from the ceiling, a cotton candy station, and even magnified pics of confections on giant panels. I had to stifle the urge to go up and lick the wall a la Willy Wonka.

Congratulations to Emily Goldman, event manager, and Team Fluxx for another great showcase and for reminding us that a cutting edge club like Fluxx can be a great spot to create whatever you can dream up for your special event. www.fluxxsd.com/private-events

SideNote: Have to give a shout-out to my hardworking friend Nada Adjadj of SoBelle Favors who attend the Sweet Shoppe event as just a guest (for once!) She creates amazing confections for special events as well – check her out! www.sobellefavors.com

OK, my souvenir candy necklace keeps distracting me. Time for a treat . . .

The great thing about San Diego is the number and variety of wedding venues that abound! There really is something for everyone; from the coveted beach wedding to beautiful parks, sophisticated hotel ballrooms, historic properties, wineries– the options seem unlimited.

Especially San Diego’s beautiful downtown–from Little Italy to the Gaslamp District– offers some very cool options for the bride & groom who want something a little edgier and different.

Last night was such a treat to hear the band East Bay Soul play at Anthology down in Little Italy. The band tore the joint up with a smoking horn section, amazing percussion, and one of the most incredible lead vocalists I’ve heard.  Great food and service, too!

Anthology is a perfect blend of sophistication and ease and is a great spot for your wedding reception or rehearsal dinner.

Downtown offers the brand-new Fluxx nightclub – in the former Aubergine space. They did an amazing job of transforming the club- lots of space and still offers an intimate feel ‘in the round.’  Fluxx is available for private events, wedding reception or an additional party space for those extended weekend events.

Only 12 lucky brides have the opportunity this year to hold their wedding at the spectacular University Club atop Symphony Towers in downtown San Diego.

Only club members are allowed access to the club and to hold events. However, the University Club is opening up 12 dates in 2010 for nonmembers to hold their event.

My recent visit to Borrego Ranch Resort brought not only incredible pampering and relaxation, but enthusiasm and excitement for a property that yields a bounty of options for a unique and magical wedding celebration.

After a 2-hour drive from San Diego through beautiful countryside, winding roads, and a few small towns, I arrived at Borrego Ranch Resort & Spa and was greeted at reception as if I were family.

Borrego Ranch Resort provides such a warm environment that you almost feel like you are a special guest in someone’s home. The staff is professional and laid-back; addressing your every need with the familiar authority of a gracious hostess. During dinner on the patio there was a slight chill but not enough to warrant lighting up a heater, which can sometimes be obtrusive. Instead the restaurant manager retrieved a pashmina and draped it around my shoulders. Nice touch.

And with so many activities available – rock climbing, golf, spa, croquet, guest speakers, writing and cooking classes, movie nights – even though I was out in the middle of the desert I never felt bored; simply open to possibilities. The environment caters to living in the moment.

A unique feature of BRR is their own rock labyrinth on the property. A rock labyrinth creates a well-defined path that leads to the center and back again. The center represents illumination, a place where people find insights to their problems and concerns. Sort of a walking meditation.

How do you approach a labyrinth in the desert? With a clear intention and an open heart. This is also the best approach to planning your wedding at a paradise getaway.

Such an intimate property is a natural for a wedding weekend. The best option is a resort buyout; easily achieved with a standard size wedding. Imagine full run of the resort with your friends and family!

And then the possibilities for cocktail hours, intimate gatherings, fun activities and of course your ceremony and celebration open up to take advantage of the beautiful resort and landscaping.

I prefer to call it a wedding ‘getaway’ rather than a ‘destination’ wedding, which can sometimes feel loaded with quite a bit more logistics. But with careful planning and experts at hand, it will feel as easy breezy as any weekend retreat.

A guest book for your wedding is a wonderful way to capture a memory of everyone who attended your wedding – family, friends, and colleagues.

Why not offer your guests an opportunity to be a little creative with their sign-in!

A traditional guest book provides a line or two for your guest to write their name and perhaps contact information. With a little creative thinking, your guests can share their thoughts, wishes, advice, and blessings on your special day.  Try a ‘wishing bowl’ with special note paper, a ceramic plate to display, or an engagement photo book for guests to sign.

“It’s important to let your guests be creative,” says Gayle Feallock, owner of Just Imagine Weddings. “More and more guests are wanting to say a wish or blessing rather than write their name.”~ “Signature Style” p. 46 Exquisite Weddings Magazine Fall 09
